Description

• Fabric: tash kuchin brocade body, the same cloth as the adult one-piece bakhu

• Wonju: contrast collar band and sleeves built into the dress, in a plain satin that changes with the colourway

• Cut: one-piece wrap, crossing left over right, tied at the waist with an attached sash; fully lined

• Length: ankle length, with a straight fall from the waist

A child’s bakhu is the adult dress scaled down, not simplified: the same wrap, the same waist sash, the same wonju collar and sleeves showing at the neck and the wrist. This one-piece cut builds the wonju into the dress, so a girl is dressed for Losar in a single garment, wrapped and tied, with no inner blouse to arrange, and it is cut from the same tash kuchin brocade as our adult one-piece bakhu.

The body is tash kuchin, a satin brocade woven with blossoms or medallions that catch the light as the child moves. The wonju is a plain satin in a contrast colour, cut as a band along the wrap neckline and as full sleeves that end in a cuff of the body brocade, and an attached sash in the body cloth ties at the waist to hold the wrap. The dress is lined throughout and falls straight to the ankle. Each bakhu is cut only after you order and checked for fit, finishing and cultural accuracy before it ships. Each one is tailor-made to your child’s measurements — after ordering, Bhutib contacts you directly to confirm fit and preferences.

Dress her in it for Losar, Saga Dawa, a monastery visit, a wedding or a school cultural programme; it is the child’s partner to the adult tash kuchin bakhu with its attached wonju and sits with the bakhu dresses for women and children. Each bakhu is stitched for Bhutib in the Eastern Himalayan hills.

Garment type Children’s one-piece bakhu (chuba) with attached wonju and attached waist sash, lined
Construction Tash kuchin brocade body; satin wonju band and sleeves joined into the dress; brocade cuffs
Cultural wear Tibetan, Bhutia, Sherpa and Tamang children, for Losar, Saga Dawa, weddings and cultural programmes
Styling With flat shoes or boots; a pangden is not needed for a girl

Questions buyers ask

How is it different from the jacquard kids bakhu? The cut is the same one-piece wrap with attached wonju. This one is tash kuchin, the heavier satin brocade of the adult festival bakhu, with a plain satin wonju; the other is a lighter poly-silk jacquard.

How do I choose the size? By age band, then by chest and length from the size chart. Because each dress is cut to order, tell us the measurements and we cut to them.

Does it need an inner blouse? No. The wonju collar and sleeves are part of the dress; a plain vest underneath is enough in winter.

Questions people actually ask

Will it fit if I’ve never been measured?

Yes. Choose your usual size. Before we cut, we message you on WhatsApp for two numbers — your chest or bust at the fullest part, and your height — and adjust the pattern to you. A tape and two minutes is all it takes.

What if it doesn’t fit when it arrives?

We alter it free. Courier it back to us in Kalimpong (that leg is on you); we adjust it and pay the courier back to you. Or take it to a tailor near you — every piece is cut with margin for a small local adjustment.

Is there anything to pay on top of the price?

No. Delivery is free across India and the price includes tax, so the amount you see is the amount you pay. Two exceptions, both quoted before you order: a size above 4XL carries a small surcharge for the extra cloth, and a personal customisation beyond a standard size is confirmed with a 10% advance on the order; the rest is paid on delivery, as usual.

Can I cancel, or change the size or colour?

Before we cut, yes — tell us on WhatsApp and nothing is lost. After cutting, the piece is made to your measurements and cannot go back into stock; if it does not fit, we alter it free.

I’m buying for someone I can’t measure — what do I do?

Choose their usual size and add their WhatsApp number in the order notes. We confirm the rest with them, or with you, before we cut.

Need a size we do not list?

We cut it. Smaller than the smallest size shown, larger than the largest, and for babies and children too. Message us the measurements on WhatsApp; for a child we need chest, shoulder-to-foot length and sleeve length. Above 4XL the extra cloth carries a small surcharge, quoted before you pay.

Can it come faster?

Sometimes. Tell us your date before you order and, if a faster courier reaches your pincode, we quote the difference. Either way, tell us the date and we cut yours first.

Will it reach me before my date?

Allow 6–9 working days from the day you confirm your measurements, anywhere in India, a little longer for remote pincodes. Tell us the date in the order notes or on WhatsApp and we plan around it.

Do you ship outside India?

Not through this website yet; it ships within India only. Message us on WhatsApp and we will arrange it, or order from our Etsy shop, which ships worldwide with free shipping.

Is the colour the same as the photo?

The photos are of the actual cloth in daylight; screens differ a little. To be sure, ask us on WhatsApp for a photo of the cloth before we cut.
