• Trim: loom-woven dhaka facing the band collar, the half placket, the pocket mouth and both cuffs

• Closure: pullover with three buttons on a half placket

• Silhouette: regular fit, long sleeves, short vent at each side of the hem

Across the Nepali hills the everyday shirt is a plain pullover with a band collar, and what makes it Nepali is the strip of dhaka at the neck. This one is cut from khadi, the hand-spun, hand-woven cotton that breathes in the heat and softens with every wash, and it carries the dhaka where the eye lands first: the collar, the placket, the pocket and the cuffs.

Khadi has a dry, slightly uneven hand because the yarn is spun on a wheel rather than a machine, and the finished shirt keeps that texture. The band collar is faced in woven dhaka, its stepped peaks built up on the loom rather than printed, the half placket closes on three buttons, the chest pocket takes a band of the same trim across its mouth, and the cuffs are faced to match. A short vent at each side lets the hem sit easily worn out over trousers. Each shirt is cut only after you order and checked for fit, finishing and cultural accuracy before it ships. Each one is tailor-made to your measurements — after ordering, Bhutib contacts you directly to confirm fit and preferences.

It is a working shirt first, over jeans or chinos on an ordinary day, and a festival shirt when a printed dhaka topi that answers the trim goes on for Dashain, Tihar or a family puja. It sits with the shirts, daura and topis Nepali men wear. Each shirt is stitched for Bhutib in the Eastern Himalayan hills.

Garment type Pullover shirt, band collar, half placket
Trim Loom-woven dhaka facings on the collar, placket, pocket mouth and cuffs
Cultural wear Nepali men, everyday wear and daytime festival wear
Styling With a dhaka topi and a waistcoat for Dashain; over jeans the rest of the year

Questions buyers ask

What is khadi? Cotton that is spun by hand on a wheel and woven by hand on a loom. The slightly uneven surface is the point, not a flaw, and the cloth gets softer with each wash.

Is it a kurta or a shirt? It has the kurta’s pullover front and half placket, but it ends where a shirt ends, well above the knee, so it wears with trousers or jeans without tucking.

How do I wash khadi? Cold, gentle, with like colours, and dry in the shade. Iron while slightly damp and the slub flattens without going shiny.

Questions people actually ask

Will it fit if I’ve never been measured?

Yes. Choose your usual size. Before we cut, we message you on WhatsApp for two numbers — your chest or bust at the fullest part, and your height — and adjust the pattern to you. A tape and two minutes is all it takes.

What if it doesn’t fit when it arrives?

We alter it free. Courier it back to us in Kalimpong (that leg is on you); we adjust it and pay the courier back to you. Or take it to a tailor near you — every piece is cut with margin for a small local adjustment.

Is there anything to pay on top of the price?

No. Delivery is free across India and the price includes tax, so the amount you see is the amount you pay. Two exceptions, both quoted before you order: a size above 4XL carries a small surcharge for the extra cloth, and a personal customisation beyond a standard size is confirmed with a 10% advance on the order; the rest is paid on delivery, as usual.

Can I cancel, or change the size or colour?

Before we cut, yes — tell us on WhatsApp and nothing is lost. After cutting, the piece is made to your measurements and cannot go back into stock; if it does not fit, we alter it free.

I’m buying for someone I can’t measure — what do I do?

Choose their usual size and add their WhatsApp number in the order notes. We confirm the rest with them, or with you, before we cut.

Need a size we do not list?

We cut it. Smaller than the smallest size shown, larger than the largest, and for babies and children too. Message us the measurements on WhatsApp; for a child we need chest, shoulder-to-foot length and sleeve length. Above 4XL the extra cloth carries a small surcharge, quoted before you pay.

Can it come faster?

Sometimes. Tell us your date before you order and, if a faster courier reaches your pincode, we quote the difference. Either way, tell us the date and we cut yours first.

Will it reach me before my date?

Allow 6–9 working days from the day you confirm your measurements, anywhere in India, a little longer for remote pincodes. Tell us the date in the order notes or on WhatsApp and we plan around it.

Do you ship outside India?

Not through this website yet; it ships within India only. Message us on WhatsApp and we will arrange it, or order from our Etsy shop, which ships worldwide with free shipping.

Is the colour the same as the photo?

The photos are of the actual cloth in daylight; screens differ a little. To be sure, ask us on WhatsApp for a photo of the cloth before we cut.
